Since 1972, providing quality has remained the cornerstone of Broward Health Imperial Point’s mission. While continuing to meet the needs of the growing community, this dedicated team of compassionate physicians and medical staff have one, demonstrated, constant goal: to provide safe and expert care. Part of Broward County’s largest and most established health system Broward Health Imperial Point or BHIP is a boutique 204-bed hospital in Fort Lauderdale catering to the specific needs of the patients they serve.
One example is caring for the patient population of neighboring Wilton Manors where the LGBTQ population continues to grow. BHIP sought out equality training for its staff through SunServe and began the journey and standing allegiance to this community. Last year, BHIP was recognized by the Human Rights Campaign as a “Top Performer” on the Healthcare Equality Index. This prestigious national LGBTQ benchmarking tool, evaluates healthcare facilities’ policies and practices relating to the equity and inclusion of their LGBTQ patients, visitors and employees. “We understand that being sick is difficult enough, patients shouldn’t have to deal with any form of discomfort or discrimination during their hospital stay,” said Myrleia Maia, Regional Marketing Manager.
This is not the first time that Broward Health Imperial Point has demonstrated its dedication to specialized care. In 2014, the hospital unveiled a new addition to the Emergency Department (ED), five rooms that were designated for senior care. The hospital recognized that a significant portion of its ED visits were from seniors, and anticipating a growing demand for senior care in coming years created the Senior ER.
All nursing staff receive highly-specialized education on caring for the senior population through the Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) program. This program is designed to improve geriatric care through education on palliative care, dementia, skin care and pressure wound issues, as well as a number of other conditions prevalent in elders. “Broward Health Imperial Point is the only Exemplar status NICHE hospital in Broward County,” said BHIP Chief Nursing Officer Netonua Reyes. “Our nurses are trained to better and readily anticipate the types of conditions and treatments our senior patients need and they note a difference in their level of care.”
“Broward Health Imperial Point has a phenomenal medical staff, the nation’s top nurses, and a clinical and support services team that is second to none. They have been provided with the tools, resources, support, and most importantly the autonomy needed to treat and care for our patients. The new administrative team has empowered and leveraged the love, energy, and passion that all 862 BHIP family members bring to their jobs each day to ensure our patients receive the Imperial Treatment that we’re known for.” Five-star treatment is what our patients deserve and five-star treatment is what we will provide! “– Jonathan Watkins, BHIP CEO.
